Tampa Scuba

The Tampa Bay area has a great many diving sites to pick from. There are many scuba diving sites that are easy to get to by boat.

Divers may be most interested in sites made by the artificial reef program of sinking boats and other objects. There are tons of dive shops that rent equipment and arrange diving charters. A major activity that accompanies diving in this area is spear fishing. With regularly warm weather, diving in Central Florida is a year-round activity. Below are some featured diving sites.

Gunsmoke Shipwreck – (70-80 feet depth) about 20 miles offshore.

Blackthorn Shipwreck – (65-80 feet depth) a large amount of sea life, including grouper, snapper, mackerel and spadefish.

Sheridan Shipwreck – (50-80 feet depth) one of the most popular dive sites in the area, with lots of sea life including grouper, barracuda, and many other fish; an excellent underwater photo spot, with safe interiors to explore for advanced divers.

The first step before you leave home should be to go to the PADI web site and search for Tampa Bay area dive shops that offer PADI classes. There’s something for every level of diver from Begineer to Instructor.
